Storage

The storage media and devices for backup and video storage purpose in DVMM group include the following:

1. External hard disks

We have one external hard disks (EHD) for storage, which is in office 708. It has 120GB capacity. Group members can use them to save the video data. The current available video data include US news, Taiwan news, and TREC data (2002).

2. CD burners

We have one internal CD burner and one external CD burner. The external CD burner is used for backup for group members. You can take the external burner from Dongqing , office 708. The internal CD burner will be installed in a new pc, once it is shipped to us.

3. DVD burner

We have one internal DVD burner installed in machine “dvmm_highway”. To backup your data into DVD-R or DVD-RW, you need to copy your data to “dvmm_highway” machine or you have to set up a FTP server or SAMBA server if you are using Linux machine.
We have set up a public directory for the purpose of data transfer: \\dvmm_highway\PublicDir

4. CD-R/DVD-R/DVD-RW for backup

The DVMM group member should backup the data and source code regularly. We have a bunch of CD-R, DVD-R, DVD-RW for backup. You can take them from Dongqing , office 708. The capacity of CD-R is 700MB, and the capacity of both DVD-R and DVD-RW are 4.7 GB.

Printing

The advent group has one black/white printer for daily use. The printer is located in the Lab 7LE3.

1. Black/white printer

Model: HP8150 dn; Name: Tadpole
Installation:
Windows
1. Get the driver for the printer from HP website: Download Driver
2. Go to add printer in the Printer section
3. Select the option of 'network printer'
4. In the next dialog box choose 'Connect to a printer on the Internet" and give the following as the URL http://tadpole.ee.columbia.edu
5.In the next box select "HP" for manufacturer and "HP LaserJet 8150 Series PS" for driver. If the driver doesn't show there then follow the link given above and download the driver and select the "have disk" option.

Tips for double page: Click printer property, and go to “Configure”, and enable the checkbox “Duplexing Unit”

linux
1. Open 'printtool'
2.In the 'Set the Print Queue Name and Type' dialog box give a name for queue (tadpole) and select 'Unix Printer' radio button.
3. In the 'Configure a Unix Print Queue' dialog box set the server name to: "tadpole.ee.columbia.edu" and set the queue to "tadpole"
4. In "Select a Print Driver" dialog box select "HP -> LaserJet 8150 -> Postscript".
