Ching-Yung Lin was born in Tainan, a historic city in southern Taiwan. He received the B.S. and M.S. from National Taiwan University, in 1991 and 1993, respectively, all in electrical engineering. From 1996, he is working toward the Ph.D. degree in the Department of Electrical Engineering, Columbia University, where he is expecting to graduate in Aug 2000.

His current research interests include multimedia authentication and watermarking techniques for security, multimedia indexing and query, multimedia transmission and networking, Human-Computer Interaction, and multirate multidimensional signal processing. Mr. Lin was the primary contributor in the design of the first successful semi-fragile content authentication system, which distinguishes JPEG/MPEG compression from malicious manipulation, and in the design of the first public/oblivious watermarking methods surviving print-and-scan process.

He was the recepient of Lung-Teng Thesis Award and an Outstanding Paper Award, both in 1993. He was invited to publish papers and give talks at Workshop on Multimedia & Security, ACM Multimedia 98 and 99. Mr. Lin was invited to be a panel member on "New Visions on Multimedia Security" at Workshop on Multimedia & Security, ACM MM 99. He holds three pending US patents.
